While not carrying overwhelming firepower, the Vindicator class has a variety of weapons systems capable of handling most threats that may confront it. None of these designs serve in the Vast Empire fleet. Early model Vindicators had very little ground force capabilities but were capable of carrying a full wing of starfighters. In essence, this is largely true, particularly on the Immobilizer 418 class vessels.ĭesigned to fulfill the same roles as a Star Destroyer, Vindicators are similarly built with the same mission requirements with merely smaller armament and starship complements. Those familiar with the Imperial Fleet find the Vindicator class and it's sister designs slightly cramped versions of larger Star Destroyers. The most familiar is the Immobilizer 418 Interdictor Cruiser. Indeed, the Vindicator platform became the hull for later craft, many very specialized designs. This was immediately seen as critical needs and made it into the design.
Early models were more lightly armed and did not have the capacity to carry large ground forces. Despite their obvious advantages, the basic hull design has been retooled into the Immobilizer 418 cruiser, and that ship's design was retooled yet again into the Enforcer-class picket cruiser.As a bridge between a full Star Destroyer and of other smaller craft, the Vindicator design platform was of moderate success. These ships could also carry a full wing of starfighters to assist its defense. Three tractor beam projectors were used to restrict enemy starfighter movement and guide returning fighters into the launch bays.
They could also defend themselves against starfighters with ten point-defense laser cannons and ten point-defense ion cannons. As such, the 25 extra heavy turbolasers cover all the blind spots. 25 heavy turbolaser cannons made up for the fact that the quad guns were focused in five batteries of four (four dorsal starboard, four ventral starboard, four dorsal portside, four ventral portside, and four forward). Vindicator-class ships were armed with 20 quad heavy turbolasers, the same kind used on the first sector Emancipator-class Star Destroyer.
They were heavily armed and upgraded for their size, and could be modified to fit individual profiles for missions. The Vindicator-class was a staple design, totaling at 600 meters long with three engines and a class 2 hyperdrive. The Vindicator-class heavy cruiser was a model of fairly powerful capital ship utilized by the second sector of the Astragon Navy.
